Today I did a lot of work in the yard clearing out dead stuff and enjoying goldfinches. I prefer having an upsidedown finch feeder since we have a plethora of sparrows that will drain my feeders in minutes leaving much debris in their wake. I was in cleaning up and came to the back door and noticed a goldfinch just sitting there.
Odd, I thought, since she didn't move when I got closer. Upon inspection I noticed feathers stuck to my back door.
Can you see the little feathers? The poor little bird crashed right into the back door and is stunned.
I am hoping for no internal injuries. So sad!!

Mantel progress
You can see the red tiles that we will remove
The concrete bed here needs to be taken down several inches
My husband doing some fine detail sanding. We would of loved to have stained the mantel, but with the different kinds of wood used and still areas that wouldn't take stain well, we will paint it with a fresh white. The mantel will look awesome with the granite tiles we picked.

The Mantel Makeover
This is day one of the mantel makeover. There are about 6-7 coats of old paint that need to be removed. We plan on covering the brick with tiles and redoing the tiles on the floor.
Taking the plunge
I am taking the plunge..yes..starting a blog and learning this as I go. I've told myself to keep doing stuff that kinda scares me so this was one of them.
